Charlotte is a PhD candidate at UWA researching the link between heritage diplomacy and antiquities trafficking. Her research focuses in particular on how the various narratives of shared heritage produced in the context of the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road will affect the movement of Southeast Asian underwater cultural property in the region. Charlotte has background in maritime archaeology that has led her to work in Vietnam, where she first became interested in the issue of archaeological looting and antiquities trafficking. She has also worked in Australia, Ireland, Thailand, and Malaysia.
Charlotte received a BA in Anthropology and Southeast Asian Studies from the University of California Berkeley and a Masters of Maritime Archaeology from Flinders University. She is a member of the Vietnam Maritime Archaeology Project.
